Is one of your resolutions for 2017 to organise your fabrics, and/or use up pieces left over?
In the ACT, more than 400 women undergo breast cancer surgery every year, and when they leave hospital they have one or two drains that will stay with them for a couple of days or up to 2-3 weeks. It is very helpful for them to have a “drainage bag” in which to carry the drains. If they have reconstruction or double mastectomies, they have drains in each breast.
Bosom Buddies ACT coordinate the delivery of more than 60 drainage bags every month to the hospital breast care nurses. And we need more people to help out to make bags. EVEN IF YOU ONLY MAKE ONE OR TWO, YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO SOMEONE UNDERGOING BREAST CANCER TREATMENT.
They are simple to make and we have created a pattern you can use. Bosom Buddies Drainage Bag Pattern
If you decide to make some, have any questions or have some bags ready for collection simply call the office on 0406 376 500. We are more than happy to collect the bags and get them to the Bosom Buddies volunteers who work with patients.
