get involved

People are the most important asset that Bosom Buddies has, and many members volunteer their time to assist others during their breast cancer experience. Many participate in Bosom Buddies social activities and others work on keeping the organisation going by joining the Management Committee or participating in fundraising.

There are many benefits of getting involved whether you have breast cancer or not, and becoming a member is the first step.

become a bosom buddies volunteer

Bosom Buddies runs many activities that involve our members and volunteers. This means there is something for everyone. Some are at the stage where they are focused on recovery while other people want to be involved in the work that Bosom Buddies does.

join the members social activities

Our monthly get-togethers, including coffee mornings and after work drinks, are the perfect environment to meet other Bosom Buddies members, build networks and catch up with old friends. There is no need to book just turn up!

get on the volunteers register

Organise or run a stall, information booth, pack the Blue Buddy Bags or assist at a fundraising event. All good casual ways to be involved with Bosom Buddies spreading the awareness message and giving away shower tags.

join the support team

The Support Team provide support in many ways to those diagnosed with breast cancer, their families and friends and work closely with the Specialist Breast Care Nurses at Calvary Bruce. We are always looking for more volunteers, especially amongst our younger members. (Members must have completed treatment at least 2 years prior)

join the breast awareness team

We run a Breast Awareness Program that involves presenting to organisations, government departments, community groups and schools on how to be “breast aware”.  You can give presentations about our work and share your own story. We’ll provide presentation notes and training.

get sewing

Bosom Buddies relies on individuals and sewing groups all over Australia to provide us with “Fluffie Ducks”, drainage bags and seatbelt/portacath cushions.  The patterns are simple, and fun to do in a group of two or three.  If you’re a whiz with a sewing machine email us for the patterns.

become a committee member

You can become a member of the Management Committee that oversees our policies, schedules, administration and budget. The Committee is always looking for people to become involved.

become a bosom buddies supporter, fundraiser or sponsor

Bosom Buddies thank all those who understand that our work relies on local Community support as we do not receive any funding from governments or national cancer or breast cancer organisations.

Organisations provide support to Bosom Buddies for three reasons:

$

we are local

$

we help many people in this region navigate their cancer treatment, and

$

because their donation or support can make a big difference to our small organisation.

Local businesses and individuals have assisted Bosom Buddies over the last few years in several ways:

$

fundraising by organising an event – often this is a one-off fundraising event.

$

funding support or sponsorship through repeat grants or donations.

$

support in kind by offering goods or services for reduced prices or pro bono.

$

donations from generous individual donors.

If you are interested in fundraising, supporting, sponsorship or donating,
we’d love to hear from you!
